Mounting gas struts

It is important gas struts are mounted in accordance with the instructions if they are to function properly and safely. For example, a gas strut must be mounted linearly between the two connection points. If this is not done, the piston rod may become damaged. A slightly warped rod causes the seal to deteriorate quickly. Once it has deteriorated too much, the gas strut will lose nitrogen. In such a situation, the only solution is to replace the gas strut. In the worst case scenario, the piston rod may break and that can be dangerous for the surrounding area.

It is also important to mount the gas strut properly in order to achieve a long lifespan. Mounting in a straight line prevents the seal from deteriorating. The side on which the piston rod is mounted also influences the lifespan. A piston rod should be, preferably, mounted at the bottom. This ensures correct lubrication and less dirt getting in.

The correct materials for mounting gas struts

When using flat brackets, the gas strut can be mounted between both points with locking pins once the brackets have been placed. Angled mounts and brackets are an obvious choice for limited spaces. The material, too, has an influence on the type of brackets. Plastic is the best option in cases where the total load must be limited. Stainless steel provides a sensible option in corrosive environments.
